One of the most atracctive options for our german tanks models of the WWII is that characteristic coat of textured anti-magnetic cement  that they called zimmerit. For a long time modellers tried to create an homogeneous coat with putty which they could texture with that peculiar shape, always trying to lay the putty as flat as possible all along the surfaces, a bit hard sometimes, mostly around the details. then some years later some after-markt pieces were produced by some artisans, resin and photoetched sets designed for specific models, but they were too expensive and sometimes they had faults or they didn´t look as they should. From soem years to here Dragon has produced "zimmerited" versions of some of theyr models so you can now choose wheter to buy the normal panzer or a zimmeritted one. But what if we have a model to which we want to apply our own zimmerit?
In this tutorial I will show you how to create a zimmerit sheet with any texture and how to make a mold so you can reproduce it as many times as you need. You will have to make a small payment for the silicone the first time and then you will have as many zimmerit as you want for just some cents.

We will need plastic, nitro solvent ( paint shops, drugstores ) solder tin sheet ( arts stores ) silicon for molds ( specialized stores ) water and hands gel.

Podéis encontrar la silicona muy barata aqui
You can buy the silicon very cheap here

The first thing we will do is texturing the solder tin sheet wit the ancient technique of embossing. Extend the solder sheet over a soft surface like a cutting pannel and draw the design you need pressing with a punch or a pin.

Another way to produce a traditional zimmerit sheet is with stretched sprues pieces glued over a plastic sheet.

Now that we have the zimmerit sheet we will make a mould with the silicon, first we glue the zimmerit sheet at the bottom of a card box that will be the recipient for the silicon.
We prepare some soap diluted with soem water that will act as anti-adherent and we aply it generously over the zimmerit and inside the box. Let it dry completely .
We mix the silicon with the catalyst and we pour it slowly, 24 hours later the mold will be cured and we can remove it.

Now we got the mold we are going to prepare some liquid plastic to obtain copies of our zimmerit sheet. The only thing we got to do is let some plastic sprues or parts of models we don´t need in a glass jar with some nitro solvent and let the plastic dissolve, it will be ready in a few hours.

Pouring theis plastic in the mould we will get thecopies from the original, but be warned! this solution reduces a lot when dries and will leave a thin layer of plastic. You will need some practise to get the adequate viscosity of the mix and the amount of plastic to pour in the mould.
Now that you have the zimmerit sheets, cut the pieces you need and glue them as any other model piece, after all, they are made of the same plastic.
