Hace poco recibí unos botes del nuevo lavado acrílico de Vallejo, después de trabajar con ellos un buen rato me entró la curiosidad, quise ver si serviría como aglutinante para los pigmentos y como cambiaría la tonalidad al mezclarlos. Después de varias pruebas me dí cuenta de que si no los mezclaba bien, al pintar sobre la maqueta se producía un efecto de difuminado que me pareció muy sugerente. Tras probar con varias combinaciones llegué a una que me gustó mucho. Utilizando un lavado de color óxido, un pigmento de tono terroso y algo de polvo de grafito pinté algunas piezas a las que previamente había dado una mano de color chocolate para que sirviera de base.
Os enseñaré como lo hice con esta vieja pieza de Italeri.
Recently I have received some acrilycs washes from Vallejo, after working with them for a while I begun to feel curious, I wanted to know if they could be used as an emplastic for pigments dust and how would they change the tones when mixing them. After some tests I realized that if I did not mix them too much, the effect after painting was of bluring, something that seemed very interesting to me. After testing many combinations I came to one that I liked very much. Using a rust colour wash, an earth tone pigment and some graphite dust I painted a plastic piece that I previously had painted with a chocolate colour base.
I will show you how I did it with this Italeri old piece.

Lo único que necesitamos es un bote de lavado acrílico, un poco de pigmento de algún color terroso y algo de polvo de grafito ( casas de bellas artes )
The only thing we need is a bottle of rust colour acrylic wash, some earth tone pigment and some graphite dust ( arts shops )

Como podéis ver las cantidades de pigmento y grafito necesarias son muy pequeñas.
As you can see the amount of pigment and graphite is very small.

Lo mezclamos todo y pintamos con el pincel con un movimiento de estarcido, es decir golpeando con la punta y sin deslizarlo.
We mix it all and we paint with the brush using a stencilling movement, just hitting with the point without sliding it.

No seais tímidos con la mezcla, la mayor parte de evaporará.
Don´t be shy with the mix most of it will evaporate.

Como podéis ver, una vez seco nos queda un acabado oxidado bastante apañado, y porqué es mágico os estaréis preguntando.....porque si pasamos el pincel por encima una vez seco...aparece el grafito, añadiendo a la pieza el efecto del roce del metal. Y todo de una pincelada.
As you can see, once dry the effect is quite realistic, and why is it magic? you may be wondering...because once dry, if you pass the brush over it....the graphite will show creating the effect of the polished metal. And all with just one brushstroke.

Manchas con lavados acrílicos / Stains with acrylic washes

Si eres de los que no te gustan los óleos o no soportas el olor de los disolventes, este sencillo tutorial es para tí. Puedes hacer las típicas manchas y difuminados que se suelen hacer con óleos utilizando los preparados acrílicos para lavados, y como diluyente un ricamente perfumado limpiacristales.
If you are one of those modellers that does not like to work with oils or does not like the smell of the neccessary solvents this tip is for you. You can achieve the same result using the acrylic washes and use a nice smelling cristal cleaner as solvent.

Existen varios colores con los que trabajar de modo que no hecharemos en falta la variedad para obtener un buen surtido de manchas en nuestra maqueta
There is a nice variety of colour to choose so you will not miss the variety to obtain a good assortment of stains.

Preparemos en una paleta una pequeña cantidad de diferentes colores de lavados acrilicos y un poco de limpiacristales aparte ( la marca es indiferente )
Si añadimos un poco del limpiacristales al lavado correrá mucho mejor.
Let´s prepare a small amount of many acrylic washes colours in a palette with some cristal cleaner aside. ( the brand is not important )
If we mix the colours with some cristal cleaner it will spread far better.

Ahora humedecemos la superficie de la maqueta con el limpiacristales.
Now we moisten the model surface with the cristal cleaner.

Cogemos un poco de uno de los colores con un pincel y lo depositamos sobre la maqueta, al poco tiempo veremos como el tinte se esparce por sí mismo. Si usamos varios colores al mismo tiempo estos se difuminarán y mezclarán igual que hacen los óleos.
We take a small amount of one of the colours with a brush and leave it over the model surface, soon we will see how it spreads by itself. If we work with more than one colour at the same time they will diffuse and blend as oils does.

Lo más importante en esta técnica es observar cual es el mejor momento para dejar la gota de lavado sobre la maqueta, si está demasiado empapada en limpiacristales el color correrá demasiado, en cambio si está casi seca el color no correrá. Será mejor que practiquemos un poco antes de empezar.
The most important with this technique is to observe which is the best moment to leave the colour dot over the surface, if this is too wet, the colour will spread too much and if it´s almost dry it will not spread enough and leave a trace. It will better to practice a little before beginning.

Dependiendo de la concentración de pigmento en el lavado las manchas serán más o menos sutiles. Eso depende de la cantidad de limpiacristales que usemos para diluírlo.
Depending on the pigment concentration in the wash the result will be more or less subtle, this depends on how much cristal cleaner we use for diluting the wash.
