D7 Bulldozer, "Pulling the Reich back"
Habiendo terminado la versión tractor del Caterpillar D7, he decidido ponerme de inmediato con la versión Bulldozer equipado con una pala LeTourneau WCK-7 que acaba de poner en el mercado la firma Mirror Models.
La maqueta se monta sin excesivas complicaciones aunque es recomendable comprobar la alineación y asegurar las juntas antes de pegar las piezas.
Having built the tractor version of the D7 I decided to start inmediately with the bulldozer version equipped with the LeTourneau WCK-7 blade, the newest kit of Mirror Models.
The kits builds without serious complications, and I would just advice to test the coincidence of the parts and unions before gluing.
El manual de instrucciones comienza con el montaje del bloque del motor, bastante bien detallado y en el que ponemos las primeras piezas fotograbadas que incluye la maqueta.
The instructions book suggest us to beggin with the engine, nicely detailed, in which we will add the first photoetched parts that are included in the kit.
Siguiendo con la transmisión y el radiador llegamos al chasis del tractor al que pegamos el bloque, en este paso he preferido comenzar a pintar para que no quedaran zonas de difícil acceso.
Following with the transmission and the radiator we reach the tractor chassis to which we glue the engine, at this stage I decided to start painting before having any problems to reach hidden parts.
El siguiente paso es el de los patines de rodaje que incluyen los grandes muelles de metal, si los vamos a cubrir con las correspondientes chapas protectoras, estos quedarán ocultos.
The next phase was to build the boogies that include the big metal springs, if we use the covering plates they won't be seen.
Al unir los patines con el chasis y las ruedas tractoras y tensoras, el tractor comienza a tomar la forma definitiva.
When fixing the idler, sprocket and boogies to the chassis, the tractor beggin taking shape.
Añadimos la plataforma de conducción con el suelo fotograbado y comenzamos a montar la pala, aunque esta está un poco más adelante en las instrucciones. Así vamos adelantando trabajo.
We add the driving station with the photoetched platform. Meanwhile the glue cures we can start building the blade.
Colocamos las plataformas laterales y fijamos las superficies antideslizantes fotograbadas con cola blanca.
We add the side platforms and fix the photoetched anti-slip surfaces with some white glue.
Antes de cubrir el motor, comenzamos el proceso de envejecimiento y ensuciado, para ello he utilizado las pinturas del set de óxido de Vallejo combinando pequeñas manchas en fresco.
Before covering the engine we can start the weathering process, for that I used the Vallejo rust set mixing the rust colours "al fresco"
Una vez montado el asiento y la estructura de la pala, doy una base general con una imprimación de color verde oliva.
Once glued the seat and the blade structure I airbrushed an overall layer of Olive drab primer.
Luego un filtro con un color verde más claro diluido al 50% sobre las zonas más destacadas.
Then with a lighter green colour I applied a filter diluted 50% at the most visible zones.
Y a continuación otro filtro con un lavado acrílico de color blanco a modo de iluminación zenital.
And inmediately after another filter using white acrylic wash creating a zenithal ilumination.
Para el oxido extremo de la pala he usado las pinturas del set de óxido de Vallejo y la técnica del esponjado.
For the blade extreme rusted surface I used again the rust tones of the Vallejo set using the sponge technique.
Tras unos lavados en tonos de tierra y añadir un poco de tierra adherida en la zona inferior del tractor he dado la maqueta por terminada y la he colocado sobre una peana forrada con una de las nuevas bases grunge de FCModeltips
La bandera en el mástil también es una nueva referencia de FCmodeltips, se trata de una calca en papel que se adapta fácilmente a una superficie irregular o se puede modelar con las manos. Podéis verlas aquí.

After some earth tone washes and adding some pigment and mud at the lower parts of the vehicle I called it finished and put it on one of the new FCmodeltips grunge bases
The flag at the pole is another new FCmodeltips item, is a paper decal that is easily adaptable to un uneven surface or can be modeled with the hands, you can see them here.

Me ha gustado mucho la maqueta y espero poder montar pronto la versión de pala móvil y la versión protegida.

CMP Ford F15 with breda 20mm

Escala 1/35
Los camiones CMP fueron fabricados en Canadá para la Commonwealth en las fábricas de Ford y Chevrolet y participaron en todos los teatros de operaciones de la segunda guerra mundial en los ejércitos de varias naciones.
La reciente maqueta de Mirror Models representa uno de estos camiones capturado por los italianos en Africa al cual le han colocado un cañón Breda de 20mm al estilo portee.
The CMP trucks were produced in Canada for the Commonwealth at the Ford and Chevrolet facilities and were deployed in every theatre of war within the armies of many nations.
The recent Mirror Models kit represents one of these trucks captured in North Afrika by the Italian armyto which the y have added a breda 20mm gun at the back in the portee style.
La maqueta está compuesta de un buen montón de piezas provenientes de versiones anteriores por lo cual nos sobrarán un buen puñado de ellas.
Las instrucciones son un poco difíciles de seguir por lo que es recomendable un estudio a fondo y una previa identificación de las piezas ya que en los paneles no se ve muy bien los números y letras que las identifican.
The model is made of a considerable amount of pieces of previous models so many of them will be left once finished.
The instructions are a bit difficult to follow so is highly recommendable to study them and a previous identification of the parts as their numbers at the panels are not clearly seen.
Una vez seguros de como seguir las instrucciones y con las piezas correctamente identificadas, el montaje no ofrece complicaciones, solo la limpieza de algunas piezas y la eliminación de unas pocas marcas de inyección en los paneles de la caja posterior.
Once we are sure how to proceed with the instructions and all the parts correctly identified, the building doesn't offer any complications, just cleaning a few parts and eliminating some inyection marks at the rear cargo part.

La reciente maqueta de Mirror Models representa uno de estos camiones capturado por los italianos en Africa al cual le han colocado un cañón Breda de 20mm al estilo portee.

Las instrucciones son un poco difíciles de seguir por lo que es recomendable un estudio a fondo y una previa identificación de las piezas ya que en los paneles no se ve muy bien los números y letras que las identifican.

Para decorar mi maqueta elegí un esquema diferente al sugerido por el fabricante, basado en fotos de la época decidí mantener el color arena claro inglés y pintar una gran bandera italiana sobre el capó para identificación aérea.
Para las zonas de desconchado y óxido de la pintura recurrí a la técnica del estarcido, similar a la del pincel seco pero con el pincel mas cargado de pintura y dando pequeños golpecitos perpendiculares a la superficie.
Para terminar de ambientar la maqueta coloqué todo tipo de equipaje en la parte posterior, pero intentando que no estorbara la utilización del cañón, entre el equipaje podéis ver un cajón de mapas entre los asientos y otro desplegado detrás, todo sellos provienen del set de mapas ingleses del teatro africano y que podéis descargar aquí.
To paint my model I choose a different scheme to the one suggested in the box art, based on photos of some vehicles deployed at that moment by the Italian, I decided to keep the English light stone colour and paint the Italian flag over the hood for air identification.
For the chipped and rusted zones I used the stencilling technique, similar to the drybrush but charging some more paint with the brush and hitting softly the surface with perpendicular moevements.
To finish the model I put all kind of stowage at the back but trying to leave space enough to operate the gun, between the stowage you can see a case of maps and another one unfolded at the rear, all of them came from an English set of maps of this era used by the British and US troops in Afrika, you can download them here.

AMX-30 en España
Aquí está el borrador de parte de las instrucciones del próximo set de calcas del AMX-30 en España. las calcas ya están en fase de producción y estarán disponibles a mediados de Marzo.
No he contado las opciones posibles pero con los números, los escudos y las mascotas de diferentes épocas podréis hacer no menos de 250 tanques diferentes.
Here is the sketch of part of the instructions pages of the forthcoming "AMX.30 in Spain" decals set, they are already in production and I hope them to be available during March. I haven't counted the posibilities but with the numbers, shields and pets of different eras you will be able to choose between no less than 250 tanks.
No he contado las opciones posibles pero con los números, los escudos y las mascotas de diferentes épocas podréis hacer no menos de 250 tanques diferentes.

Próximos sets de calcas / next decals sets
Como ya sabéis me he lanzado a diseñar calcas para vehículos militares a escala 1/35, por ahora me voy a concentrar en el ejército español y cuando el tema esté ya bien cubierto quizás me diversifique un poco. El primer set dedicado al Renault FT-17 ha tenido muy buena acogida por lo que inmediatamente me he puesto a diseñar las de los 6 carros Schneider CA-1 que hubo en España durante la guerra de Marruecos y posteriormente en la guerra civil. En la siguiente imágen podéis ver un borrador de una de las hojas de instrucciones.

The first set dedicated to the Spanish Renault FT-17 was wormly welcome so I inmediately started to design the ones for the Schneider CA-1 in the Morocco war and the Spanish civil war. Here you can see a draft of the first instructions sheet.
Este set ya está terminado y espero que me confirmen una fecha de impresión, espero que sea para Febrero.

Divirtiendome con el 15 cm sFH 18 de Dragon / Having some fun with Dragon 15 cm sFH 18
Me he puesto a montar este famoso cañón a escala 1/35 de Dragon tras desechar la opción Trumpeter después de ver que adolecía de muchas marcas de molde que había que rellenar y lijar.
La maqueta de Dragon se monta muy fácilmente aunque las instrucciones están plagadas de errores con muchas piezas con los números y letras incorrectos y tampoco incluye instrucciones d epintura para los detalles. En algunos casos no se vé claramente como deben colocarse algunas piezas por lo que recomiendo trabajar con cuidado y paciencia.
He elejido hacer un cañón utilizado por las tropas de la División Azul, en color grís oscuro. Para pintalro estoy utilizando un primer de Vallejo para la base y un par de lavados de la misma marca para realzar los volúmenes y forzar unas luces mediante la subida de tono con filtros tirados con el aerógrafo.
I have started this famous gun, I choosed the Dragon 1/35 model after checking the trumpeter one that has lots of mould pins and holes everywhere, some of them hard to correct.
The Dragon kit is easy to build but the instructions are full of errors, many parts are wrongly named and some others are not easy to see how they should be placed. They didn't include the details painting calls neither so I advice to take care and patience with the building.
I want to depict a gun form the Blue Division so I'm painting the kit German grey overall. I'm starting with Vallejo primer and a couple os washes of the same brand to make some highlights applied as filters with the airbrush.
Graphite pigment applied with a felt pencil to imitate polished metal.
Un filtro con blanco puro para realzar un poco más algunos detalles.
A white filter to highlight some details
Some pigments mixed with water and applied with a mechanical sprayer will create a soft dust layer.
Some splattered acrylic washes to make the stains
Stencilling with a small piece of sponge and using different combinations of washes and pigments i rust the most worn parts of the gun.
Oils and synthetic paints are perfect for a lot of different stains.
For the sheet used as an improvised winter camouflage I used a piece of tin plate painted with a light grey primer and then some white lights.
Some washes splashes of earth tones I dirty the sheet, I don´t think that it would be washed every day.
